USC Annenberg School for Communication Journalism Professor Larry Pryor says Scott Shuger‘s “Today’s Papers” column “became for many people indispensable in their lives.” The Slate feature, he says, “raised issues and problems in coverage that even experienced newspeople don’t automatically think of. It helped me to think about how the news is playing out.” Shuger died in a scuba diving accident on Saturday. Details are sketchy and an autopsy will determine the cause of death, reports Jon Thurber. (Los Angeles Times)
