About to head out on a story and wondering what traffic or construction situations to expect?
Whether the morning commute or a cross-country vacation, the traffic.com Web site shows you conditions on the major routes in the major cities. And that can save you major time.
It provides up-to-the-minute traffic reports, 24×7, on the most traveled routes of our big cities. Construction details and advisories go up here as soon as the yellow barrels are scheduled. Accidents are posted as soon as they’re reported. And through a neat feature called The TrafficPulse digital sensor network, a live color-coded traffic map appears that shows you the current traffic levels and average driving times.
On the live traffic map pages are special “pan and zoom” features. Click anywhere on the Quick Zoom map to view a more detailed map of a problem area. This “zoomed-in” view often includes secondary roads not color-coded on the city-wide map. To return to the city-wide Live Traffic map, click the “zoom out” button.
Right now, 13 major metropolitan areas coast-to-coast are featured on the site, but more cities are coming on line. And as an indication of how accurate the information on the site is… lots of radio stations around the country are now using traffic.com as their source of news for road conditions.
