The ‘Net puts loads of great journalism at our fingertips — chock-full of story ideas worth plundering. But sorting through the chaff to find the wheat is tough for the time-challenged. So I’m always pleased when I find someone doing it for us.
Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) has been running a daily log of recent investigative work on its website called “Extra! Extra! Your Guide to the Latest Investigative Work.”
The page is updated by IRE staff and Derek Willis, a writer for the Center for Public Integrity and a former reporter for Congressional Quarterly.
Among the stories highlighted in the past week, for example:
- A Washington Post investigation of the Columbia
- A Kansas City Star look at the poor state of Missouri’s roads
- A Newark Star-Ledger analysis of how N.J. natives earn less than newcomers
- A Chattanooga Times Free Press series on how the immigration of Hispanics is changing in the South
All of the entries are archived by topic, so you can not only search them, but browse them by category — everything from campaign finance to transportation.
This site is an excellent way to keep abreast of the latest investigative work and find great story ideas.
