So who is an official journalist, and who decides? Does Editor & Publisher count, given that it is really a trade journal? Do its online reporters merit protection?

The goal in a shield law should be the protection of a particular
behavior or action, such as reporting the news, not the protection of a
special privileged group of individuals, such as reporters who work for
large media companies recognized by U.S. senators.

No shield law should be passed unless it protects everyone who engages in reporting, regardless of credentials.
