The Globe, which opened its first foreign bureau in the mid-1970s, is closing its bureaus in Jerusalem, Berlin and Bogota, Colombia. The four reporters in those bureaus will be offered jobs in Boston. Editor Martin Baron tells his staff: “Continuing to bear the expense of our foreign bureaus would have required us to reduce staffing by a dozen or so positions beyond those already announced.
