A new study predicts that the number of Wi-Fi enabled cell phones in the U.S. will grow by 25 percent annually in the next five years, reaching 149 million by 2015. Coda Research Consultancy suggests the increasing popularity of smart phones, the emergence of faster Wi-Fi via the 802.11n standard and the proliferation of Wi-Fi hot spots will drive this growth. In 2015, the study predicts, two-thirds of all handsets sold in the U.S. will be able to connect via Wi-Fi.
