Ken Auletta, in a video interview with Mary Kathleen Flynn on TheDeal.com, says one reason for the buzz around Apple’s new tablet is that a lot of people in traditional media are intrigued by the opportunities it might bring to their profession. An obvious question publishers are asking themselves, he said, is, “Can the tablet do for me what iTunes did for music? Can I start charging for my content, magazines, newspapers and books?”

Asked by Flynn for his “hunch” on that question, Auletta, a columnist for The New Yorker magazine and author of “Googled: The End of the World as We Know It” answered, “It’s hard to best against Steve Jobs. He has a magic touch in part because he really understands consumers.”
