I love it when the Web can solve life’s problems for free, and here is an example of just that. RepairPal.com is an easy-to-use site that is set up to help you know how much you should spend on an auto repair. Just enter the year, make and model of your car and what is wrong with it. The site calculates what it should cost to have it fixed.

The site does list repair shops near you, but the listings are not for sale. The site claims to be independent and unbiased. It also relies on customers to rate mechanics.
