Wall Street Journal Digits
Google CEO Eric Schmidt thinks the search giant may be able to use its growing Android mobile operating system audience to benefit newspapers.

Amir Efrati writes that Schmidt would like to diversify Google’s revenues to include more than Internet advertising. The company gives away the Android OS to mobile device makers but may have other plans to make money with it.

” ‘If we have a billion people using Android, you think we can’t make money from that?’ Schmidt asked rhetorically. All it would take, he said, is $10 per user per year. Among other things, Google might earn such sums from selling access to digital content from newspapers.”
