How Microsoft Became Microsoft

“A great strategy always beats a great product,” writes Jonathan Byrnes in his Business Insider story about the beginning of Microsoft. “Unlike the other PC and software pioneers…Bill Gates was first and foremost a businessman. He saw clearly the need to get an inside track on the revolutionary growth by using his products to create a dominant strategy.”

Although Byrnes’s article primarily serves as a basic introduction to Microsoft’s founding, it also reminds us how much has changed in the 35 years since the company started in 1975
