The Next Web
Life Magazine is back again, this time as a free iPad app.
The app was released to the iTunes store on Saturday and contains material from the magazine’s archives as well as current news coverage. As one might expect from Life, Chad Catacchio writes that it includes a wide variety of imagery:
Though the app is free, an advertisement for Life pops into the stream on every fifth or sixth image. I found that a bit repetitive in galleries containing 40 or 50 images.
Sharing features within the app allow users to share images on Twitter, Facebook or by e-mail. The Twitter functionality especially could use some refinement. The app asks permission to post a tweet, but does not provide any advance warning as to the exact content of the message. I tested it out and this was sent:
The e-mail option was a bit of a surprise as well. It attaches an actual copy of the image and sends that to your recipient. No link to the Life website or mention of the app are included — except in the subject line which says “From LIFE on iPad,” and includes the title of the image.
