Paige Williams put “Finding Dolly Freed” online — with a SUPPORT THE JOURNALIST donation button — after it was rejected by The New Yorker, Texas Monthly, New York Times Magazine and others. So far, she’s received over $400 for the piece, which cost about $2,000 to produce. “Frankly, I didn’t expect a dime,” she says. “I really didn’t.”
