Msnbc.com multimedia producer Jim Seida reports, from experience, that it is possible to test drive an electric car from Seattle to San Francisco in two days and cover the story using nothing but an iPhone 4.

Seida shared his tips and tricks from the mobile journalism experiment during a chat Monday on Poynter Online. Seida and msnbc.com Science Editor Alan Boyle took the two-day ride in a Chevy Volt and blogged about the experience from the road. Seida wrote during the chat that “all media [during the trip], including videos, was shot, edited, produced and uploaded with an iPhone 4.”

Among Seida’s favorite apps: Dragon Dictate, which turns speech into text; Almost DSLR for capturing video; and iMovie for editing video packages.
