The new owners of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News say closing the business over a dispute with the mailers union is “a possibility, but we are and will explore other alternatives as well.” Brian Tierney, publisher of the papers from 2006 until they were sold at auction, says: “This is shocking news to me. If they are sincere that they would shut down the company, it’s heartbreaking.”
