Patricia Wilson Joins National Journal Group as Deputy Editor-in-Chief

Washington, D.C. (September 23, 2010) — National Journal Group announced today that veteran news professional Patricia Wilson is joining the organization as Deputy Editor-in-Chief. She will run the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, with all Managing Editors reporting to her. Wilson is currently Editor in Charge of Foreign Policy and National Security for Thomson Reuters.

“Patsy Wilson will be the engine that makes our unified newsroom run,” said National Journal Group Editor-in-Chief Ron Fournier. “Her experience in reporting and managing news and teaching the craft of journalism is nearly unparalleled in Washington. With Patsy at the helm, we will take our fantastic collection of talent and turn it into a digital-first newsroom team producing at the highest level every single day.”

Wilson has three decades of experience at Reuters in Washington as a general news correspondent, desk editor, White House correspondent, political correspondent, editor in charge of politics and domestic policy, and editor in charge of foreign policy and national security. She has covered eight U.S. presidential elections, four G7 summits, and three APEC summits, and has interviewed four presidents, including President Obama.

Wilson is currently in her fifth year of running Reuters’ foreign policy and national security coverage. She also planned and executed the news service’s coverage of the 2008 presidential campaigns, conventions, and election nights; the 44-nation Middle East peace conference in Annapolis; and presidential trips, news conferences, and Oval Office addresses.

“Patsy Wilson is the ultimate get-it-done leader,” said Ron Brownstein, Editorial Director for National Journal Group. “She will keep this newsroom humming, and she’ll ensure that we are delivering on our mission of smart, fast, and distinctive journalism. A huge piece of the new National Journal is now in place.”

Prior to joining Thomson Reuters in 1980, Wilson earned degrees in journalism and law from Queensland University in Australia. She also worked as a reporter, feature writer, and editor for newspapers in Australia and South Africa.

Wilson is the latest in a growing list of talented writers, reporters, and analysts joining National Journal Group. In the last several weeks, National Journal Group has announced several important new additions, including USA Today’s Kathy Kiely, veteran journalist Terence Samuel, the Miami Herald’s Beth Reinhard, former Fox News correspondent Major Garrett, Newsweek’s Michael Hirsh, veteran magazine writer and editor Matt Cooper, political analyst Matthew Dowd, The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder, USA Today’s Aamer Madhani, the Wall Street Journal’s Yochi Dreazen, Sue Davis, and Fawn Johnson, Politico’s Josh Kraushaar, Coral Davenport, and Tim Alberta, the Tribune Washington Bureau’s Jim Tankersley, Campaigns and Elections’ Jeremy Jacobs, Modern Healthcare’s Matt Dobias, and more. Further announcements will be coming in the next days and weeks.
