CNN reported Wednesday morning that the Haiti earthquake has killed hundreds of thousands of people, destroying most of Port-au-Prince, the capital city.
I know that you’re likely struggling to find voices from Haiti who can supply you with firsthand accounts of what is going on. Here are some of the sites I have found to be helpful and up-to-date.
- NPR has compiled a Twitter List of people tweeting about the earthquake.
- Carel Pedre, a radio host in Haiti, has been tweeting updates.
- CNN’s iReport lets people post photos of missing loved ones and share their experiences of the earthquake.

- The Associated Press is posting news updates on its Facebook page and its @AP Twitter account. A post on the Facebook page says, “We’re focusing on the earthquake for now, but we later plan to expand our Facebook and Twitter accounts to include other news stories and events.”
- An AP video has information on how people can donate to relief efforts.The Huffington Post has posted similar information. (I’ll have a post shortly on how to vet charities.)
- The Boston Globe’s “The Big Picture” photo blog has collected some images of the damage and suffering.
- The Huffington Post described a service called Ushahidi that allows people to exchange information during a crisis. Ushahidi’s Haiti page shows areas of damage and concern.
