Verizon Wireless has agreed to purchase online payment vendor Danal, which will allow consumers to make online purchases using only their mobile phone numbers. According to reporting by Stacey Higginbotham at GigaOm, after entering your mobile number at an e-commerce site, a confirmation code would be sent to your mobile phone to complete the transaction securely. The charge would then appear on your monthly cell phone bill. Mobile payment systems like this are one possible solution for publishers looking to enable digital subscription payments outside the Apple or Amazon.com storefronts.
