VoiceBase, a cool new website that just launched last week, lets you upload audio and then makes it searchable by keyword.
So for example, let’s say you are covering a city council meeting. You record the audio, maybe on a smart phone or some other recorder, then upload it to VoiceBase. If someone online wants to find the part of the meeting where the council talks about the fire department, that user types “fire department” in the search box. VoiceBase searches for the word (or words), using voice-to-text technology.
And it is free.
The only cost comes if you want to store the audio on the site for more than a year, or if you want humans to do the translation to be sure it is exact.
For a demo, go to DEMO.com. Under the heading of “Demo Fall 2010,” scroll down to VoiceBase and click on the link.
