Speaking at The Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital Conference on Tuesday, News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch reported that the Journal’s iPad app has 10,000 paid subscribers. The iPad launched two weeks ago in Europe and Australia, and at two other Murdoch properties, the Times of London has 5,000 paid downloads and The Australian 4,500.

Staci Kramer writes that Murdoch took a more conciliatory tone toward technology than in the past, but he still stressed the primacy of content:

“We see those of you on the cutting edge of technology as partners helping us bring our content to more people in ways that fit their particular lifestyles. You understand that you need content too. After all, what’s an iPod without music?  A high-definition television without popular shows? An e-reader without news or books?”
