The layoff notices issued by Booth Newspapers and MLive.com, which recently consolidated under the name MLive Media Group, represent about 45 percent all employees. The Gazette’s Al Jones has the breakdown of job cuts:

  • The Grand Rapids Press: 146 employees
  • Flint Journal: 91
  • Kalamazoo Gazette: 77
  • The Bay City Times: 71
  • Jackson Citizen Patriot: 71
  • Booth Michigan: 55
  • Valley Publishing: 20
  • The Saginaw News: 12

“We’ve been clear since the moment we announced the launch of the MLive Media Group that we’d be a smaller company as a result of the transition,” says MLive Media Group President Dan Gaydou. The employees can apply for new jobs; about 200 have been posted so far. || Earlier: Michigan papers consolidate, drop home delivery several days (Poynter.org)
