Publisher James Moroney III wouldn’t confirm the number to the Business Journal — and I don’t see a story about the layoffs in his paper — but he told the weekly that “we have been aligning our expenses to our revenues throughout the year. We have had a lower total staff count each quarter. And this trend continues.” He adds: “This is the state most metros find themselves … a constant alignment of expenses to revenues … which almost invariably means reducing head count.” On the DMNcuts blog, veteran reporter Lee Hancock tells her colleagues: “It has been quite a 24-year ride (plus one month, two days & four hours — though who’s counting?). I am grateful for the fun it’s mostly been. I hope for better, happier days for all who remain. Off to the next adventure: trying my hand at freelancing & a low-residency MFA program at Bennington College.”
