Letter from Shorenstein Center director Alex Jones
I am writing to let you know about a new research tool, developed here at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center. Journalist’s Resource is a free, open-access site whose chief goal is to make scholarly research more accessible for journalists, journalism educators and students.
Our objective is to encourage journalists to utilize high-quality scholarship in their daily reporting, and we intend for the site to make that as easy as possible. I invite you to try out our searchable database where we have vetted relevant, comprehensible policy studies in many areas.
The website provides brief summaries of important studies on a wide range of subjects — from health care and immigration to energy and education — and links to the studies themselves and related material. There are also a variety of skills-based and research reference articles. If you subscribe, we’ll also send you weekly notice of new studies, especially those related to evolving news stories.
We wish for Journalist’s Resource to become a much-used tool for working journalists and those engaged with public policy issues. In other words, people such as you. It is new and evolving, and we are eager for feedback that will make it more useful. We hope you will give it a try and help us make it better.
