paidContent | Knight Foundation
Through a partnership between the Press+ paid content service and the Knight Foundation, 50 college newspapers will be able to install content meters on their websites for free. Knight will pay the setup fee; Press+ will charge its standard 20 percent commission on payments. “The idea is not to charge college students for access to their own schools’ newspapers, but to get people accessing the websites from outside the college community to pay for access or just throw in a few bucks when they like an article,” writes paidContent’s Laura Hazard Owen. The target audience: parents, alumni and people who really want to keep up with college news. || Earlier: Press+ offers its first newspaper iPad subscription

Correction: The original version of this post incorrectly stated that Press+ would offer its service for free; Knight will pay the setup fee and Press+ will charge its standard commission.
