In this week’s career chat, we talked with Irving Washington, scholarship manager at the Online News Association.
Washington talked about the national search for scholars in a new program intended to foster digital and new-media skills in student journalists. As part of the program, which ONA is administering, six $20,000 AP-Google Journalism and Technology scholarships will go to undergraduate or graduate students.
According to ONA, students should be “pursuing or planning to pursue degrees at the intersection of journalism, computer science and new media.” We’ll talk about the program, as well as the skills that today’s student journalists need to stand out.
