Middletown Press
An article in the Oct. 27 edition of the Journal Register Company’s Middletown (Conn.) Press was found to have “significant portions that were identical” to a story published the previous day by the Middletown Patch, the Press announced today.
Matt DeRienzo, group editor of the Middletown Press, writes:
The article was about an incident in which Middletown police charged a man with disorderly conduct for field-dressing a deer carcass in a parking lot near Wesleyan University. It was picked up in our sister publications the New Haven Register and The Register Citizen before we were alerted by editors at Patch about the similarities in the article.

Similar instances involving “facts in a near-identical order and story structure” were discovered in other stories as well, DeRienzo writes. The Press added an editor’s note to the online stories in question and is running a story about the plagiarism in its print editions. DeRienzo said Walt Gogolya, “is no longer employed” by the Press.
