As Hurricane Irene prepares to scrape the East Coast this weekend, The New York Times and Breaking News have created new Twitter accounts to pass along large volumes of storm information. @NYTLive and @BreakingIrene will curate the latest news and weather forecasts.
Both are designed to help the news organizations get the latest information out quickly, without overwhelming followers of their main brand accounts. The @NYTLive account will be human-run, not automated, and after the hurricane passes it will be used as needed for other major news events. || Related: New York Times announces that all of its hurricane-related coverage (including mobile apps) will be unmetered, so non-subscribers can access as much as they want. At least, as soon as they figure out how to do it.
