Politico
Politico not only wants to guide its readers through the politics of the day, it’s now going to suggest — and profit from — politics and public policy books for its readers. Through a new partnership with Random House, Politico will sell nonfiction such as “This is Herman Cain! My Journey to the White House” by Herman Cain as well as political fiction by the likes of Brad Thor and John Grisham. Conveniently, Politico Bookshelf (the link is at the top and bottom of every Politico page) offers pre-orders of the site’s first e-book, “Playbook 2012: The Right Fights Back,” by Mike Allen and Evan Thomas. (It will e-materialize on Kindles, iPads and other e-readers on Nov. 30.) Staffers will also share their own current reading; Allen himself is in the midst of “The Price of Civilization” by Jeffrey D. Sachs. Bookshelf doesn’t tell us how far along Allen is; is he prepared to discuss Sachs’ theories of the toll that the general deterioration of life is having on Americans? (Hint: It’s on page 13.)
