Romenesko+ Memos
Melinda Henneberger will write portraits of key political players and crucial campaign moments for the Washington Post. “She also will anchor a new blog on politics and culture that will highlight the voices of some of the country’s outstanding female writers, including those in our own newsroom,” says the memo announcing her appointment. “This idea is modeled after the popular Woman Up blog that Melinda pioneered during her two years at PoliticsDaily.”

We are pleased to announce that Melinda Henneberger, founder and formerly
editor-in-chief of AOL’s PoliticsDaily.com, will be joining our political
team as the 2012 campaign heats up.

Melinda will write portraits of key political players and crucial campaign
moments. She also will anchor a new blog on politics and culture that will
highlight the voices of some of the country’s outstanding female writers,
including those in our own newsroom. This idea is modeled after the popular
Woman Up blog that Melinda pioneered during her two years at PoliticsDaily.

Melinda is an extraordinary talent. She has a wonderful gift for thinking
outside the lines, and for discovering what really matters about a story.
She is a lovely, fearless writer who sparkles with ideas, and her presence
will only strengthen an already strong political squad.

Melinda spent 10 years at The New York Times as a metro reporter,
Washington correspondent and Rome bureau chief. During the 2000
presidential campaign, as the chief profile writer in the Times’ Washington
bureau, she penned seven in-depth biographical pieces on Al Gore.

She later was a contributing editor for Newsweek, where she also wrote
profiles on subjects such as Teresa Heinz Kerry and Kofi Annan. She is the
author of “If They Only Listened to Us: What Women Voters Want Politicians
to Hear,” based on postcards from the road during 18 months of talking to
women about their conflicted political lives.

Please welcome Melinda when she joins us on Oct. 10.
