Liz Sidoti, 33, joined the Associated Press in 1999, and has covered national politics for the news service since 2003. Most recently she was chief political writer. She was a White House reporter for the AP covering President Obama’s inaugural six months, and also spent 18 months reporting from Congress on national security and foreign affairs issues. “Liz’s career is steeped in AP’s rich tradition of being first with political news,” says AP Washington bureau chief, Sally Buzbee. “She’s a ferocious competitor. Even more remarkable is her ability to push and improve the work of those around her.”
From Keach Hagey‘s piece on campaign coverage:
At the Associated Press, which has been using statehouse reporters to cover many of the 2012 campaign events in places like Georgia, Arkansas and Alaska, this moment in the campaign is as much an audition for the reporters as it is for the candidates.
“This is the period where we are really taking an eagle-eyed look at who our best state political reporters are and who is breaking news,” said Sally Buzbee, the Washington bureau chief for AP.
That doesn’t mean those reporters will be moved to Washington, though. AP recently hired the Des Moines Register’s chief political reporter, Tom Beaumont, known as a major source of scoops in the crucial caucus state, but plans to keep him in Des Moines.
