Politics occupies a primary position on many Sunday front pages.
In Chicago, Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel takes office tomorrow, fully occupying the front pages of the Sun-Times and Tribune. Southwest of Chicago in Eureka, Illinois, GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich spoke at commencement. And in Arkansas, no one seemed to care much that former Governor Mike Huckabee would not be running for president (the news was teased on only one of the seven front pages posted by the Newseum, the Sentinel-Record in Hot Springs, Ark.). In California, the budget battle inspired a front page comic that is no laughing matter.
The (Baton Rouge, La.) Advocate showed the Morganza Spillway opening in an effort to manage flooding of the Mississippi River.
Many local papers featured investigations, including the Orlando Sentinel (check out the cartoon about news coverage on this page).
Few papers showcased features, but I love the Orange County Register’s story about how old technology is making a comeback.
And Stars and Stripes reminds us that the SEALs who killed Osama bin Laden two weeks ago are still working to keep us safe.
