Bob Moser Joins The American Prospect
Former Editor of The Texas Observer and Prize-Winning Journalist to Serve as New Executive Editor
Washington, DC—Kit Rachlis, Editor of The American Prospect, announced today the addition of Bob Moser, former Editor of The Texas Observer and award-winning journalist, to the magazine. Moser will serve as Executive Editor, bringing two decades of journalism experience to the position.
“We’re excited and honored to have Bob join the magazine,” said Rachlis. “The work he did in transforming The Texas Observer was remarkable. Under his leadership that storied publication became vital again.”
Moser was named Editor of The Texas Observer in October 2008. Earlier in his career, he served as Editor of North Carolina’s Independent Weekly, which won more than 25 national awards for editing and reporting during his tenure. After leaving The Independent in 2000, Moser was a John S. Knight journalism fellow at Stanford University during the 2000-2001 academic year.
From 2001 to 2004, he was a Senior Writer at the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Report where he was awarded the Ed Press Distinguished Achievement Award and the Green Eyeshade Award for Non-Deadline Reporting, twice, for his work. From 2005 until he became Editor at The Observer, he wrote and edited for The Nation magazine.
In 2006, Moser received the GLAAD Award for best magazine article for “The Murder of a Boy Named Gwen,” which appeared in Rolling Stone. His first book, Blue Dixie: Awakening the South’s Democratic Majority, was published in 2008 by Times Books.
