Lauren Indvik reports that The Daily’s social media efforts will include a behind-the-scenes blog, powered by Tumblr, as well as promotional efforts on Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo and YouTube.

Those initiatives will be headed by Abigail Jones, who has edited at The Atlantic and written for numerous publications, including The Boston Globe, USA Today and The Huffington Post, and co-authored a best-selling nonfiction book about a sex scandal at a Boston prep school.

Indvik writes that Jones will author inside coverage of the iPad newspaper at blog.thedaily.com (which is not yet live) and will support the publication’s presence on a variety of other social platforms:

“[She will] promote the day’s content — the cover, links to top stories and behind-the-scenes coverage, etc. — and to engage in conversations with readers and prospective readers alongside staff, who will particularly focus on Twitter to engage with audiences.”

The app, which was due to launch this week, has been postponed “several weeks” as News Corp. waits for Apple to complete work on a new subscription feature. That feature, reportedly, will allow updates to the publication to be delivered to subscribers in the background as they are published.
