UC Berkeley j-student who filmed campus protest ordered to write journalism essay

A University of California-Berkeley disciplinary panel ruled that Josh Wolf shouldn’t have been inside a campus building on Nov. 20, 2009, during an 11-hour student occupation even though he was filming the protest as a journalist. His sanction, reports the Daily Californian, is to write a paper detailing the status of student journalism on campus, which may help the university in revising the campus Code of Student Conduct. The hearing was closed, but the student newspaper received a recording of it from Wolf, who graduates Saturday with a master’s degree from Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
