The Washington Post is out with one of the first Facebook social news apps using new technology announced Thursday. It brings stories from the Post, as well as partners The Associated Press, Reuters, Mashable and SB Nation, into Facebook. Much like the WSJ Social app, Washington Post Social Reader gives users stories personalized by what friends have liked and read; Facebook users read the stories without ever leaving Facebook.com.

Post CEO Don Graham, a member of Facebook’s board of directors, has been using a beta version of the app for a few months, reports Michael Calderone. Graham was surprised to discover he’s “twice as interested in reading stories” that his friends have viewed. “In the future, good news sites — and we’re going to be one — are going to have a social element,” he said.

Facebook is also working with Yahoo! News, The Guardian, The Daily and The Independent on similar social news apps. At the f8 conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced upgrades to Facebook that enable Facebook apps to automatically share and personalize news, as well as music and movies or TV shows.
