The monthly’s profile of Dominique Strauss-Kahn went to press before the former International Monetary Fund chief was arrested. “We had no way to know that Strauss-Kahn would be front-page news by the time the issue arrived in the homes of subscribers and on newsstands,” Washingtonian editor Garrett Graff writes in his editor’s note. He tells Washington Examiner that “the most ironic part of this is that the reason we were writing the piece is that nobody had ever heard of this guy. You could be standing next to him at the supermarket check-out line and not recognize him.”
