AOL Huffington Post Media Group Names Tom Zeller As Senior Reporter, Energy & Environment

Hires New York Times Energy Reporter To Cover Energy and Environment Beat

Paul Raushenbush Leaves Princeton University to Become Full-Time Senior Editor of HuffPost Religion

New York, NY – April 25, 2011 – The AOL Huffington Post Media Group, a leading source of news, opinion, entertainment, community, and digital information, announces today that Tom Zeller, energy reporter at The New York Times, has been named Senior Reporter, Energy & Environment, and that Paul Raushenbush is leaving his position as Associate Dean of Religious Life at Princeton University to become the full-time Senior Editor of HuffPost Religion.

“We’re delighted to welcome Tom Zeller, one of the America’s most respected energy reporters, as our Senior Reporter, Energy & Environment,” said Arianna Huffington. “Tom will cover the economic and social implications of energy and climate policy, including the impact on the health of our communities. He’s shown that he can deliver game-changing, in-depth investigative reporting using all the multimedia tools online journalism has to offer. We’re also thrilled that Paul Raushenbush, who helped found HuffPost Religion, will now be working full-time as our Senior Religion Editor. As a brilliant thinker, pastor, writer, editor and now former college dean, Paul has shaped our religion coverage to reflect the multiple viewpoints and insights — as well as the real-world influence of religion on American life — and he’ll now be able to expand and deepen this approach, while working with our growing HuffPost Religion team, including Religion Writer Jaweed Kaleem, who recently joined us from the Miami Herald.”

Said Zeller: “It’s been a source of great pride for me to walk through the doors of The New York Times every day, and I’ve just been so immensely lucky to have had the opportunity to grow and learn the craft in that environment. I will truly miss the folks there. But I also think it’s critically important that we continue developing and nurturing a diverse new ecosystem of quality journalism across a variety of platforms and business models. And I think the news operation that Arianna and her team are building at AOL Huffington Post Media Group is just so vital in this regard — and the energy and enthusiasm there is so palpable — I’m just thrilled to be coming on board to help move it forward.”

Said Raushenbush: “I’m thrilled to be able to focus all of my energy on continuing to expand our coverage of the vital role religion plays in so many aspects of our lives. Throughout my career, I’ve worked to bring together disparate voices, and advance our national conversation about religion – and about the ways it can have a positive impact on our families, our communities, our nation, and our world. I’m especially excited about how the social nature of new media has turbo-charged this conversation, and enabled HuffPost Religion to become the home of a passionate yet civil – and highly interactive dialogue on the subject.”

After a year as an Editor-at-Large for National Geographic magazine, Zeller returned to The New York Times in July 2008. He spent much of the last decade as a reporter and editor covering various subjects for The Times — from technology and cyberfraud to culture and politics. He was also the founder of The Lede, and oversaw the Green Inc. blog. He has won several awards for visual journalism and multimedia reporting from the Society of News Design and from the University of Navarra, Spain (Malofiej Awards) including prizes for a collection of essays and graphics lending historical context to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a multimedia documentary of a Louisiana plantation — part of The Times’ Pulitzer prize-winning “How Race Is Lived in America” series.

Raushenbush, Religion Editor at The Huffington Post since 2009, had been Associate Dean of Religious Life and the Chapel at Princeton since 2003. He had also been Co-Director of Program on Religion, Diplomacy and International Relations at the Liechtenstein Institute on Self Determination since 2006. Previously, Raushenbush was an Associate Pastor at Riverside Church in Manhattan. Raushenbush was also a contributor at Beliefnet.
