Anthony De Rosa talks with BuzzFeed co-founder and CEO Jonah Peretti and new editor-in-chief Ben Smith about what they’ll do with the $15.5 million in funding announced this week. || Watch the video after the jump. Highlights:
Peretti: “We don’t feel that we need to cover everything. I think the era of one news organization thinking they have to cover everything in the world is over. … We know that our readers are going to be reading lots of other sites as well.”
Peretti: “We have a very, a very smart audience. And although they came to BuzzFeed for light-hearted stuff, they are people who consume serious news elsewhere. So a lot of them I think will be excited and refreshed that now they can get their news in the kind of format they’ve loved, that BuzzFeed’s provided for them.”
Smith: “We’re fluent in Web culture and writing for an audience that we assume knows everything except for the next story. We’re not restating things constantly; readers are telling me they really like that. These are little things but these are very stale forms of journalism.”
