Cathy Sharick started as a producer for the website in 2002, “when the whole operation had a staff of six and the magazine cover story brought in half the week’s traffic,” writes Time Managing Editor Rick Stengel. “There is no one who has contributed more to making TIME.com a success — including three record-breaking months of traffic and 11% growth in visitors to the site last year.”

Re: Staff Announcement

On the recommendation of Rick Stengel, it gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Catherine Sharick as the new Managing Editor of TIME.com. Working closely with the last couple of managing editors of the site, Cathy has been a big part of TIME.com’s dramatic success so far, and she will be an even more important contributor to its future success. I will let Rick give you the details.

There is no one who knows more about TIME.com’s operations than Cathy Sharick. There is no one more digitally fluent. No one more involved in every facet of the site. And there is no one who has contributed more to making TIME.com a success — including three record-breaking months of traffic and 11% growth in visitors to the site last year. Cathy first came to TIME in 2002 as a web producer when the whole operation had a staff of six and the magazine cover story brought in half the week’s traffic. She quickly started helming large projects, like the launch of the TIME archive. She has overseen editorial and production and video and four different redesigns, as well as the launch of Newsfeed, Healthland, Moneyland, Swampland, Lightbox and the entertainment and tech verticals. She has also led our growth in social media and increased user engagement, which includes 3 million+ followers on Twitter, a hugely popular Facebook page and the launch of two highly praised Tumblr accounts and our new board on Pinterest. Cathy has overseen the launch of three standalone iPad apps, multiple versions of the TIME iPhone app, as well as the Samsung TV app. It is an understatement to say that she has earned this job. She leads by example, by her deep knowledge and understanding and an abiding sense of fairness. She is devoted to TIME, to what we stand for, and to the highest standards of excellence. She has helped to bring us where we are today, and she will guide us into the future.

Please join us in congratulating Cathy on her well-deserved promotion.
