Mousing over a news organization's name gives you a brief look at where it's most popular; clicking its name gives you a list of stories that made it popular there, a more nuanced view of its reach. You could have fun for hours with this: Note the similarities, for instance, between where The New York Times is popular and the results of the 2008 election. The Times is most popular in blue states, while got its biggest hits in Idaho (red), Alaska (red), South Dakota (red), and Iowa (blue).

An interesting observation:

Michel quickly acknowledged that the District of Columbia is not a state. The Washington Post, according to the map, is most influential in the states surrounding D.C., as well as in Kentucky.
