Increasingly, photojournalists are turning to their iPhones and apps like Hipstamtic and Instagram to capture images.
Conflict photographer Ben Lowy used his iPhone and the Hipstamatic lens named after him to chronicle his recent trip to Libya. New York Times photographer Damon Winter, meanwhile, gained widespread attention earlier this year for an award-winning series of photos he captured using Hipstamatic.
During a live chat, we talked about iPhone photography with Keith Jenkins, who is NPR’s supervising senior producer for multimedia, and photographer Richard Koci Hernandez, known for his Instagram photography. They talked about the benefits and drawbacks of iPhone photography, the role that apps like Hipstamatic and Instagram play in journalism, and the related ethical issues.
