In this week’s career chat, we talked with Larry Olmstead, vice president of organizational development at United Way Silicon Valley. He was formerly a vice president with Knight Ridder and managing editor at the Miami Herald. He also ran his own business.

Olmstead talked about how to decide whether to take a buyout, and what factors to consider. With hundreds of buyouts on the table at The Washington Post, Gannett newspapers and the Philly papers, a lot of journalists are now faced with this tough decision.
