In this week’s career chat, we talked with Everett J. Mitchell II, managing editor of The Medicare NewsGroup. The site features original and curated content that’s aimed at journalists covering Medicare.

Medicare NewsGroup — which was created to help clear some of the confusion regarding Medicare and the media’s coverage of it — has hired recent graduates, as well as experienced journalists who previously worked for decades in legacy newsrooms.

Mitchell talked about the types of skills journalists need to work for a specialized niche site. Mitchell, former managing editor of The Detroit News, worked for Gannett news operations around the country for 25 years.
