Ganim won for her investigation into former Penn State football staffer Jerry Sandusky, for which she’s already won a Polk Award. Lucke won for a series of editorials about the coal industry in Appalachia. And Hakim and Buettner won for their series “Abused and Used,” about the care of the developmentally disabled in New York.

Paul Kiel and Olga Pierce of ProPublica won for their series on the foreclosure crisis, work that’s already been honored by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. || Related: Crocker Stephenson of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wins Pulliam Writing Award. | Columbia Journalism School and Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard announce 2012 Lukas Prize Project Awards.
