Philly.com editor Wendy Warren is leaving Philly.com to join NBCWashington.com, the website for WRC-TV, an NBC-owned station in Washington, D.C. Warren will be editorial manager, digital. Here’s the memo from NBCWashington GM Jackie Bradford:

I am happy to announce that Wendy Warren will be joining our team as Editorial Manager, Digital. Wendy will oversee NBCWashington.com as well as our social media and digital platforms. She will work with all of our station’s departments to ensure that our website continues to be dominant and relevant. Wendy has extensive experience working in a newsroom. In her current position as Editor and Vice President of Philly.com (the website of both the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News), she developed new web franchises, and verticals, created the social media strategy and established the site as a go-to place for breaking news. In fact, during her three years as editor, the site grew page views by 195% and unique monthly visitors by 87%.

Before joining Philly.com, Wendy worked as the business editor for The Morning Call in Allentown, PA. She went to James Madison University and has been recognized for her work by many organizations. Wendy will be moving to our area with her husband and daughter.

Wendy’s first day will be September 17.

Reached by telephone, Warren said: “[I’ve] loved my time in Philadelphia.” The D.C. gig was “an unexpected thing,” she said, adding that looks forward to applying some of the things she’s learned at Philly.com to NBCWashington. No specifics on that yet: “A big part of this is hearing how they want to bring their journalism, which is outstanding in that market, how they can bring that into digital,” Warren said. About the platform shift, Warren said producing digital news affiliated with a TV station will be “a new experience for me, which is great, but clearly my role is digital and that is something my heart is committed to especially when digital meets quality local content.”
