Oregonian editor Kathleen Glanville was fired last week for telling the paper Bob Caldwell, its editorial page editor, had died in a car. In fact, he died at the apartment of a young woman he’d been paying for sex. Glanville also “drove to the young woman’s apartment and moved Caldwell’s vehicle from the scene,” Corey Pein reports today in Willamette Week.
Pein also reports that the woman Caldwell had been with when he died wasn’t exactly a college student earning extra money: She’d been advertising on a site called TNA Board, a multicity service that connected sex workers with customers. “She charges up to $200 an hour and tells prospective johns she won’t take them on as clients without at least two references from other prostitutes,” Pein writes. “As she put it in her ad on tnaboard.com, ‘I do not see newbies!'”
“His death will haunt me for the rest of my life,” the woman, whom Willamette Week does not name, tells the paper.
Pein also reports that the Oregonian published 16 unsigned editorials since 2000 deploring prostitution.
