Media correction: Ray Price is not dead
Price’s son, Cliff Price had written of his passing on Facebook, but was not at Price’s bedside when he posted. Price’s wife, Janie Price, is at his side and confirms that he is alive.
Other news outlets also reported on Price's death, and Rolling Stone's Patrick Doyle wrote about speaking with Price's wife, Janie Price.
"He is still with us," she says, adding that Price's son released the statement of his passing prematurely. Price is surrounded by loved ones including a Pastor right now at home in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. "It's been an honor to walk this road with him," she says of her husband. "It's a sad day. We are losing a great man."
Marc Schneider reported in Billboard Sunday night that Price, who has pancreatic cancer was, as of 8 p.m. Sunday night, still alive. Schneider wrote about the story gathering steam even after Price's son took the posting off of Facebook. Schneider wrote that Bill Mack, a country radio personality, would update the public when Price passed. At 8 p.m., Mack issued this:
Just another input at 8:00 PM, Central: Ray is still alive, thank God. Many of you have apologized for forwarding news of his "passing". Don't feel foolish or idiotic! Many announcements were made of Ray's death by various important avenues in the media because they had received the false information. It is very normal to "forward or "post" such news. It was just another bit of evidence that you love Ray and his music! Janie and the family are grateful for your precious love and concern. I'll continue to post you on any "changes". Thank you for being there. You'll never realize your value.
