Since The New York Times finished its most recent round of buyouts and layoffs, emails to staffers have noted many of the people who’ve taken the deals and/or are leaving. Here’s an updated list:

  • Assistant News Editor Susan Jo Keller
  • Reporter Elissa Gootman
  • Reporter Charles “Chip” McGrath
  • Washington bureau editor Jack Cushman
  • Deputy Business Editor Winnie O’Kelley
  • Senior Editor Lawrie Mifflin
  • Deputy Technology Editor David Gallagher (joining Kickstarter)
  • Admin Aaron Henry (“leaving The Times to pursue a business venture — the TsuRag,” says an email)
  • Sports Editor Joe Sexton
  • National desk’s Alix Pelletier Paul
  • Projects Editor Tom Torok
  • Dining reporter Glenn Collins
  • Assistant Managing Editor Jim Roberts
  • Culture Editor Jonathan Landman
  • Deputy Managing Editor William E. Schmidt
  • Reporter Jacques Steinberg
  • Columnist Joyce Wadler
  • Editor for Special Sections and Development Alice DuBois
  • Managing Editor John Geddes
  • Editor of News Technology Terry Schwadron
  • Classical music critic James R. Oestreich

That’s 21 of the 30 positions the Times said it was hoping to cut. “We stated at the beginning of the process that we expected we would need to eliminate about 30 positions from the newsroom staff,” Times spokesperson Eileen Murphy tells Poynter in an email. “We met that goal primarily through the voluntary buyout program with a very limited number of layoffs.”
