Oregonian | Willamette Week
The Oregonian announced Thursday that it will be reducing home international delivery to four days a week. The paper will deliver on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will continue to publish daily.

N. Christian Anderson III announced that “newsroom layoffs are beginning immediately” and that staffers will know by Friday morning if they’ve been laid off, Willamette Week’s Aaron Mesh reports.

Mesh quotes Anderson’s announcement to staff:

“While we believe these changes will create growth opportunities for our employees, the reality is that some employees will lose their jobs … Many of our employees will be offered positions with the Oregonian Media Group and many others will be asked to be part of the Advance Central Services Oregon team.”

Anderon also told staffers that the Advance-owned Oregonian will move to new offices.

As part of the move, the Oregonian announced the creation of a new company, Oregonian Media Group, which will launch this fall. Peter Bhatia, vice president and editor of The Oregonian, will become vice president of content for the company.

Other Advance papers have reduced print frequency in the past year, including the Times-Picayune, the Patriot News and the Post-Standard. The Advance-owned Cleveland Plain Dealer, which has also reduced print frequency, which has reduced print delivery, laid off staffers Wednesday evening.

Correction: This post originally said the paper would deliver three days per week. It will deliver four.
