PandoDaily will absorb NSFWCorp, Dominic Rushe reports.

The NSFW team, including [founder Paul] Carr, [Senior Editor Mark] Ames, fellow ex-eXile Yasha Levine and syndicated political commentator David Sirota, will anchor a new, long-form investigative journalism unit at Pando. Carr says what looks like a study in contrast is actually a marriage that has long been in the planning. The site will rename itself Pando.com.

Carr and PandoDaily founder Sarah Lacy used to work together at TechCrunch. “The NSFWCORP brand and voice will be going away, and everything will now be under the Pando brand,” PandoDaily Editor-in-Chief Sarah Lacy writes. “The old NSFWCORP team will adapt to our audience and style, at the same time as our voice expands to cover more of tech and startups’ impact on the globe.”

Carr & Co.’s content will now be free, Lacy writes. It was previously behind a paywall. “Subscribers are the lifeblood of any serious journalism startup hoping to succeed in the consumer market,” Carr wrote in March. But the combined organization will continue to produce NSFW’s $84-per-annum subscription print magazine, which will be renamed PandoQuarterly.

NSFWCorp tried to raise money to keep going independently in September. It laid off three people earlier this month.

It recently published a harsh look at some investments in public policy by Pierre Omidyar, who is funding a journalism venture headed by Glenn Greenwald.

Pando reporter Hamish McKenzie sounds psyched.
