Rob Morrison has reportedly resigned as an anchor at WCBS-TV in New York. Police in Connecticut accused Morrison on Sunday of attempting to strangle his wife, Ashley Morrison, a reporter for CBS MoneyWatch.

Morrison characterized the evening in question as “actually a kind of a quiet night” in an interview with FishbowlNY’s Jerry Barmash.

Morrison says his wife did not press charges and will not cooperate with prosecutors. Therefore, he believes, his name will be cleared. He says Ashley is furious about some of the tabloid content of this story. One salacious tidbit alleges Morrison is addicted to Internet porn, which he says took him by surprise.

“Officials at WCBS were livid that the ‘News at Noon’ anchor allegedly lied to them about the bruises on his face when he came to work Monday,” New York Daily News reporters Kerry Burke, Daniel Beekman and Larry Mcshane say station sources told the paper.

He “misled station management and has made a horrible situation even worse,” a source said.

The Daily News account has plenty of further details of what it calls the Morrisons’ “marital mayhem.” A WCBS representative has not replied to a phone call and an email from Poynter asking for confirmation that Morrison has resigned.
